Katharine Martinez and Jenell Robins discussed how proactive oral hygiene practices reduced mucosal barrier injury, lowered infection risk, and supported prevention of central line–associated bloodstream infections in immunocompromised children.
The session explored practical strategies for oral health assessment, patient and family education, and integration of oral care into multidisciplinary treatment plans. It also underscored the importance of collaboration among nurses, oncologists, and oral health professionals, and examined how preventive approaches, including complementary therapies, supported improved clinical outcomes and quality of life.
