This webinar highlighted the vital role of oral health in pediatric hematology and oncology care, emphasizing its impact on infection risk, mucosal integrity, and overall patient well‑being. Katharine Martinez and Jenell Robins discussed how proactive oral hygiene practices reduced mucosal barrier injury, lowered infection risk, and supported prevention of central line–associated bloodstream infections in immunocompromised children.

The session explored practical strategies for oral health assessment, patient and family education, and integration of oral care into multidisciplinary treatment plans. It also underscored the importance of collaboration among nurses, oncologists, and oral health professionals, and examined how preventive approaches, including complementary therapies, supported improved clinical outcomes and quality of life.

Target Audience
This session is open to all registered nurses and allied health care providers.

Learners will demonstrate the ability to educate patients about oral hygiene practices to prevent infections.
Learners will identify relevant indicators for monitoring oral health improvements and patient outcomes.
Learners will incorporate or identify strategies essential for improving oral complications related to pediatric hematology/oncology treatment modalities.
