This course on health literacy is designed to enhance the understanding of healthcare professionals regarding the critical relationship between health literacy and the comprehension of key educational concepts among parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer. By the end of this module, learners will be able to describe how health literacy impacts parents’ understanding of their child’s diagnosis and treatment, as reported in the Keith et al. study. Additionally, the module will explore the correlation between preferred learning styles and health literacy levels, highlighting the challenges faced by parents with lower health literacy. This course aims to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively communicate and educate parents, ensuring they are well-informed and capable of managing their child’s care.
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the relationship between health literacy and comprehension of key new diagnosis education concepts in parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer reported in the Keith et al. study.
- Identify the relationship between preferred learning style and health literacy in parents of children newly diagnosed with cancer reported in the Keith et al. study.
