Pediatric oncology patients frequently participate in clinical trials. Most of these trials are academic in nature and led by consortium groups aiming to improve treatment options and minimize late effects. The rapid development of oncology treatments in the past ten years has resulted in more pediatric patients participating in industry-sponsored registrational trials. To meet regulatory requirements, the data collected in these trials undergo a higher level of scrutiny and frequently require a larger amount of data be collected. Pediatric oncology nurses are in a unique position to ensure that data is collected accurately. During this brief session, we will review the key differences between academic and industry-sponsored trials and provide examples of best practices to ensure accurate data collection.

• Post-Session Evaluation

• Discuss the differences between academic and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
• Describe best practices for timely and accurate data collection.

APHON will provide .50 nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) contact hour(s) for the successful completion of this session. Successful completion requires attendance for the entire session and the completion of the post-session evaluation.

The Association for Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurses is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This provider is also approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 14513.
