Target Audience
This session is open to all registered nurses and allied health care providers.

  • Describe the normal bleeding and clotting process and the pathophysiology of inherited bleeding disorders including hemophilia, Von Willebrand Disease, and rare factor deficiencies​
  • Explain the evolution of hemophilia therapies from whole blood and plasma-derived products through recombinant factors, extended half-life products, and non-factor therapies​
  • Compare standard half-life, extended half-life, mimetic, gene therapy, and rebalancing agent approaches for hemophilia management​
  • Identify the benefits and limitations of gene therapy and rebalancing agents for hemophilia, including patient eligibility and safety considerations ​
  • Discuss current and emerging therapies for Von Willebrand Disease, including treatment limitations in Canada and challenges of new therapies​
