JOPHON Courses offer continuing education created from JOPHON, APHON’s acclaimed journal. These courses feature original, peer-reviewed research aimed at enhancing clinical nursing care for children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders, and their families.

This course examines the development and evaluation of creative arts intervention protocols for pediatric hematology and oncology populations. It explores key elements of study design, including attention control conditions and iterative refinement processes that strengthen methodological rigor. The course also highlights how concepts of feasibility and acceptability, along with participant feedback, inform the evaluation and implementation of nonpharmacologic interventions in clinical settings. Additionally, it considers how protocol development studies contribute to evidence-based practice and support the design of future randomized controlled trials in pediatric hematology and oncology nursing.

  • Analyze the purpose, design, and methodological rigor of a creative arts intervention protocol for pediatric oncology populations, including the use of attention control conditions and iterative refinement processes.

  • Apply principles of feasibility and acceptability to evaluate nonpharmacologic interventions in children with cancer, including interpretation of participant feedback and implementation considerations within clinical settings.

  • Evaluate the implications of protocol development studies for advancing evidence-based practice and informing the design of future randomized controlled trials in pediatric oncology nursing.
